BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CIBMTR

I've got some big news to post- although hopefully people have heard
about it so it's not BIG news...

CIBMTR Milwaukee is moving on Wed., May 7, 2008 to a single location in
the new Cancer Center. All staff are getting new phone numbers
(different phone system), but E-mail addresses should remain the same.
Don't expect much in the way of communication on Wed, May 7, and it is
advisable to not send faxes that day. As of the next day we should be
up and running.

Important change for those who submit copies of NMDP Forms for CML HSCT recipients:

The NMDP Follow-up Form 150 is a little to abbreviated for collecting disease specific follow-up information for the disease CML. Any recipient who had their initial HSCT for CML, for whom an NMDP Form 150 is submitted, must also include the 095-CMLFU (available from http://www.ibmtr.org/). Thank you for your cooperation!

Auto UCB:
Most umbilical cord blood (UCB) transplants (TX) are allogeneic, but on a rare occasion an autologous UCB TX takes place. If you are registering an AUTOLOGOUS cord blood TX, please make an special note that you confirm the TX was autologous and not allogeneic. Due to the rarity, if you don't alert us upfront, we will be contacting you to confirm.

Novel indications for HSCT:
We recently had a Team contact us about using autologous PB to treat heart disease (directly injecting auto PB into the heart). We do want you to let us know about any new therapies that are being implemented. We might not always have a code in place on the Registration documents (Pre-Reg/TED), but almost all fields have an "other" into which new options can go. Upon revision, a field can be created if the new idea catches on. In the example above, we would not have a specific diagnosis code for 'heart disease', hence no appropriate disease classification page. Submit a short note explaining the new procedure and details instead of a Disease Classification page.

Important request from CIBMTR – update contact information

Please let the CIBMTR know if there have been any staff changes at your institution in relation to Data Managers and Clinical Research Assistance or if “anything” else changes. The CIBMTR would also like to know new contact information, if contact information changes or if someone should be deleted form the list. This is especially important in relation to whom the CIBMTR should contact for data queries The CIBMTR prefer to send queries directly to the correct person, but can't when they haven't been informed of changes. Changes in contact information should be send to ibmtr@mcw.edu, rather than to specific staff people at CIBMTR.
Thanks!

Concerning Pre-Registering patients
Author: Diane Knutson, Sr Research Associate, IBMTR/ABMTR
When completing the Pre-Reg Form, if a piece of data is not known, e.g. what GVHD prophylaxis will be used, leave the section blank. Do NOT answer "none". It is better to send the Pre-Reg when all of the data points can be completed, but if on rare occasions you need to send the Form without all the data, please do not give a wrong answer just because the correct answer is not known. If you leave a question blank, you will need to create a reminder system to send the data once it is obtained. Thank you for your data collection efforts.
